Ospreys

The August 6, 2015 issue of the Saanich News Community Paper had an interesting article about the osprey nest at the University of Victoria (UVIC). This article referred to a UVIC website on the nest. Here is a link to this website: Click here

This looked like a good subject for bird pictures even if the light was rather poor, with thick black clouds on that day. Here is the result:

This picture was taken when the chicks were fully fledged and able to fly but still being fed by their parents. Mama stays with them and papa goes fishing and feeds the four of them. A lot of work!! This was a cloudy day with poor light for photography. Obviously, it would be a good idea to come back on a sunny day to get better pictures.

Two days later (August 8, 2015) it was a really nice sunny day. Time to check on the osprey nest!

Papa above (mama?- male and female ospreys are very similar.) is flying with the two young ospreys.  Obviously, these young ospreys  can now fly very well.

Well, it's time for these young ones to fend for themselves! I am off to the beach!!

Goodbye and farewell!

Enough flying with the Old One. Lets go to the nest and wait for dinner.

I am hungry!

Where are mom and pop? It's way past meal time!!

horizontal rule

Well, I am really hungry and I will go catch some fish. See you at the beach!
